Fun Day

"Let's Go Green, Let's Go!!!" my group and I yell. "Go Green, Whoo!!"
Today was the day of our church gathering sports day. It happens every single year. And this year I'm in 'team green'.

The first game we did was volleyball. The score was close but not close enough. It was fun playing against team red. Some were cheating some were fair, but at the same time it was awesome. It came to the finals and it was my team and the blue team. It was a draw when it came to the second round.
"Let's GO GREEN!!" We all yell to our team members that were on the field.
It came to the last point and we finished it off with a spike. That spike saved our team a spot bonus point.

The second event we had was  NETBALL. And in this game we played against 'team red' again. We played against this team because their were only 3 teams in our tournament. It was 15-13 in the last quarter. Our cheerleaders Toia, Joe and Nise encouraged us through the whole tournament. I passed the ball to my cousin Malaete'a and she shot the ball into the hoop for the last score. We won to games in a row.

It came to the end of the day and their was just one last sport to go. It was my favourite sport, Basketball. We versed the red team. And in this game everybody was cheating except for our team. We followed the instructions and that's why we won straight away. Their is no explanation for this sport or event because we didn't play a full game. We just ended at half time. The referee was fed up with red teams attitude and how they played.

It was the end of the tournament and the team that won this sports day was......."TEAM.....GREEN!!" It was so amazing to have our team win the church tournament. The prize we won was  a bunch of chocolate. We all got one each.

Cooking Finalists-Narrative

Looking eye to eye with my partner I knew straight away that  we were ready to cook. The competition that we were attending was a cooking competition.
“The challenge for today is to make a super delicious and healthy sandwiches for the judges,” said the host of the show. “You have 5 minutes to get ready. 3......2.......1.......START!”

My partner and I quickly ran to where all the groceries were. We picked out lettuce, sweet tomatoes, chicken ham, mayonnaise, cheese and most importantly bread.
We ran back to our bench and started to make our sandwich.

My partner and I were almost finished when I looked over to the other bench they were done. Their were 3 beautiful decorated plates just sitting their. My partner, Vanessa, told me that we should decorate our sandwich and so we did.
“You have 10 seconds left,” the host said. “OMG are you kidding me, 10 seconds left, seriously. That’s how long it takes me to tie my shoes and if I can tie my shoes in 10 seconds then I can decorate this sandwich/plate in 5 seconds,” I say out loud. And off we went.

Time was going when suddenly I heard the bell ring. Time was up and we still weren't finished.
“How long does it take you to make a sandwich?” the host said to me. He then served our sandwiches to the judges. All 3 judges gave their comments to us and what they thought the sandwich was like. Until they came to Vanessa and I. They said that they were disappointed at first but when they tasted our sandwich they thought that they were over the moon and up in the stars.

The host fell to the ground and said that my team won the challenge and that we also won the competition. Vanessa and I were so happy because we beat all the competitors. We won for and we also won for our class. It was amazing. This cooking competition was a great experience.

How Will.I.Am Came to Pt England

May the 9th was not going to be an ordinary day for Pt England School. One was that a famous person was going to come to our school. Two was that we all had a special assembly on a Thursday. And P.E.S never have assemblies on a Thursday only if it was a special one. Anyway's today was going to different for once.

Everything was set-up in the hall. And when I mean by everything was set-up in the hall was that their were camera's around and also photographers. I was wondering what kind of 'famous' person was going to come to our special and surprising assembly.

Sitting on our chairs was so boring so Mr Burt (our principal) decided that we have a practise at singing our school song before our special guest was coming. This assembly to our principal meant everything and by everything I mean like getting our school song correct and to make sure us year 8's sing.

After singing the song then we watched film festival movies. The first one was the movie from 'Room 18'. It was called 'Room 18 Maths Test'. The stars of this movie was Brooke, Kingston, Raihan, Dillion and Starford. It was an awesome.

It went all silent when we heard Mr Burt say that our surprise was here. All the prefects were surrounding him especially the cameras. When our surprise walked through the door all you would hear is people screaming.

Our famous comer had grey fancy boots, golden squared glasses and a beanie on top of his head.
"Do you have any clue who this could 'famous person' is?"
Well it's the one and only..................... WILL.I.AM. Yes the famous rapper and singer WILL.I.AM.

He came to our school to present all Maniakalani trust school's one hundred thousand dollar. It was very generous of him to do this. This day was awesome.

What My Friends Say About 'ME'

Our last activity for the term was to write a little positive quote on to our classmates back's.  For this activity we had 1 piece of paper, 1 strap of sellotape and a pen/pencil.

I just found out that some of my classmates also think that I'm cool. My favourite quote was when my friend Vanessa wrote, "you were the coolest girl ever since I first came to this school. You also welcomed me into this class, THANK YOU." I really appreciate what most of my friends say about me. I think she said that maybe because I was always there for her when she needed me most.

I also found out that people think that I'm funny and brainy at the same time. Also some of my classmates appreciate what I do for them. For example when some of my friends get hurt I help them.

Some quotes I didn't understand but it was okay any-ways. I figured some out and some of them said that I was their best friends. Some of them even said that I was a great friend to them. I was shocked when some one said that I was very very pretty. I didn't think that any of the guys said that because no-one would ever agree that I am pretty.

Anyway some of these comments were very appreciative. Well to my thoughts I think that some of these comments were actually true. One of the comments said that I was 'COOL AS', with many s's.

This activity was the best activity so far this year. I loved this activity because some of my besties from the other classes came and wrote on my paper.  I LOVED IT.

Fiafia

Moving and singing to the song, the samoan group and I were practicing in our school breeze, on Monday the 15th of April 2013. We had 'Fiafia' practice today because our performing day is on Thursday. And on Thursday it is going to be the last day of term 1, for Pt England School.

The first thing we did was practice our moves so that when it is our turn to go on stage then we don't mess up. It was important to us that we don't mess up because if we do it will turn into a big disaster. And what I mean by disaster I mean if even 1 person messes up the whole dance then we all mess up.

The following thing we did was practice the song because most of us don't even know the song. When we dance some of us just dance but we don't open up our mouth's and sing. Some of us do sing but we don't dance we just stand their and do nothing. So that's why we practiced singing.

After a while we stood up and danced and this time every one was great. Us girls looked at our hands and sang the song. The boys did their part of the performance and they were also wonderful. Mrs Tele'a, Jenny and Timmy, our dance teachers, said that we were all beautiful dancers.

At the end of the dance and performance we all sat down proud and at the same time exhausted because we had to do it every single time we got it wrong or did a mistake. I was so happy for our group because we have had been practicing for 5 weeks and we have tried our best.

The Dark Rise

Walking home from the movies I see a narrow short-cut/path. This path looked very terrifying. My friends, Jorja, Te-Rina, Caroline, Vanessa, including myself,  had just finished  watching Paranormal 4. It was a pretty scary movie.

We  stepped on the path and we thought to ourself, "this isn't bad after all ". As we walked I felt very funny. It didn't really feel like a normal short-cut. It felt like a cemetery. And do you know what lives in a cemetery......dead people.

"Did you guys hear that," I say to my friends. "What?" They reply. " I think we standing on some-one's body," I say in a terrified voice. "Don't be silly. Were walking on a path not a dead person," Jorja says to me. " I was sure that we were standing on a person.

I could hear a crackle kind of thing when ever we walked. When ever I told my friends what I could hear they never trust me. As we were heading toward the ending of the path a gate shut before we could even take another step. I knew at that very moment that this was what I thought it was.

"What did I tell you... this is a grave," I say to my friends. "We are so sorry for doubting you," Vanessa says in a frightened voice.
Just like that all their pieces of their body came out. First the arms then the legs, and then......the head. It was the scariest thing that had ever to me.

We tried looking for a way out but all gates were closed. I thought to myself, 'why did I have to come late at night '. It was almost sun rise and I still haven't got home. My friends and I were surrounded by old moving bones that rose from the dead in the middle of the night. I was 95% close to sleeping on a grave yard. As I start to close my eyes, I start to the sun coming out of the dark shadows. I opened my eyes like as if my eyes looked like big fishy bulgy eyes, and told Jorja to whisper to every one to keep their eyes opened because the sun was coming up.

At that very moment, when the sun rose, the moving bones slowly collapsed into their normal dead selves.
"Finally we can go home. We should never ever come back through this short cut ever again," I say.     " We should always go the long way," My friends say as we start to walk home.

Birthday Presents

"OMG!! AAAAH, it's my birthday," I say to myself in my bedroom.
It is February 4th 2013. I am turning 12 today. Today was the day I get all of my wishes, and hopefully they will come true. I walk downstairs to see if their were any presents waiting for me and I found them lying of the ground shaped like a big pyramid. The top of the present pyramid was a letter from my dad. The second present was from my mom. Inside the present bag was clothing and shoes.

I went through all presents until I came to one present that surprised me. It was an IPAD and an IPHONE 5. I started to play on both presents. I was so fun. It was the first time I have ever touch or had my own phone and IPAD. I opened all my presents before I headed to school.

I felt very joyful to see all of my presents.

Picking Harakeke (Flax)

Last week my class and I had the privilege to experience the kaupapa (protocols) of collecting harakeke (flax). Flax is a taonga to all Maori people because they used flax for all sorts of things like for example clothing, baskets and many more things. We all walked down to Omaru Creek and talked about the rules.

Some rules were to not pick flax at night and to not pick them when it's raining. One of the most important rules was to not cut the Pepi (baby), Matua (father) and the Whaea (mother) because if you do then the whole bush will die. There were some other rules we were not to do with it

After discussing the rules we went off and picked our flax. My friend Jorja and I didn't really get to pick flax but we did get to capture everyone participating in this event. It was amazing seeing everyone co-operating together as a team. It was a short time down at Omaru Creek.

We came back to school with our flax in our hands and our class sat down quietly ready to start weaving. We were trying to weave a putiputi (flower). Some people got through it but some struggled. This was a great experience.

Even though I didn't get to do all of these things but I still had fun seeing people make the putiputi. At the same time is was funny. Anyway this day was AWESOME!!

Tuakana/Teina (Big Brother or Sister, Little Brother or Sister)

Do you know what Tuakana Teina is? Well, Tuakana means older brother or sister. Teina means younger brother or sister. Every Tuesday afternoon Rm19 and Rm9 have Tuakana Teina. But this time it isn’t older brother or sister it’s older buddy reader and younger buddy reader.

My partner every single Tuesday afternoon is LJ. He is a sweet and cute little boy. He is also a good reader. Sometimes he doesn't appear at school because he is absent. Anyway my Teina (my younger buddy reader) is an awesome person and a wonderful Teina.

LJ reads to me perfectly. He sometimes reads chapter books to me. LJ also reads books that even his friends can't read like for example ZAC POWER. ZAC POWER is a chapter book about a guy named Zac that has really cool powers. Anyway LJ reads the words and pronounces them exactly how you want it to be read like.

After hearing LJ read, I decided that it would be my turn to read. And when I read I like to read like a professional reader. LJ loved the way I read he even smiled when I finished reading the book. It was amazing reading to my Teina LJ.

Tuakana Teina is the best part of a Tuesday afternoon. It is a very fun way of reading. After every session I feel very proud of my partner when I hear him read.

School Picnic

On one great morning Pt England School went down to the reserve. The sun was shinning and no grey clouds were coming out of the sky.
"Are you excited to go to the picnic," I asked my best-friend, Tui. "Yeah, I'm excited. I can't wait to play many activities like touch, rippa-rugby, volleyball and softball," she replied to me in a very happy voice.
"It's time to go, Pt England School," Mr. Burt told us through the speaker.
When we arrived at the beach Mr. Burt did a karakia (prayer) to bless our day and then we went of into our team spot.

This was the first event I did before going onto touch. I played with a lot of people like Turuhira, Sesalina, Britney, Elizabeth, Gabriel and many other parents that joined in. It was really fun playing volleyball because my group kept on winning every single time the ball came to our side. It was 13 to us and 6 to the other team, when we ended our game.

Playing touch was my second event I played. And this time I played with different people. It was Tevite, Jay'lee, Serena, Tui, Logan, Melvin, Tevita and 1 adult name Winny. Touch is a game when 2 teams play against each other . It is not a contact game like 'Rugby' but more like netball. Except in netball you don't run with the ball. Also in netball they play with a actual 'Netball', but in touch they play with and actual touch rugby ball. Anyway I was on Winny's team and the players were Tevite, Logan and I. There were many of us that played touch. This was my favourite activity/event I enjoyed.

This isn't actually an event but it is something I enjoyed to. It was having my lunch with some of my friends. Instead of having lunch with my old besties Sylvia, Mino, Mubba. I had my morning tea with my friends Tui, Hosannah, Rita, Brooklyn and Shoal. It was awesome having to share my snacks with friends of mine.

Even when my old besties weren't there, I still had fun at the school picnic. I felt very happy at the end of the day.It was the best picnic ever.

Honesty

The word ‘HONESTY’ means to be fair and tell the truth to people. It also means to talk to them face to face and let them know what you're feeling about them. ‘HONESTY’ means to show your expressions as well.
