Best-friend Reflection

My bestie is Hosannah. He is a talented person. He is my bestie ever since I was a little 2yr old girl. He has a great big voice. He is confident, makes people (especially me) laugh and smile, is playful and fun.

He is my best-friend because he is the person I grew up with and will never forget him in the future. I will always care for him. He is a great athlete. Deep into my heart he is the greatest rugby and tag person. Anyway  that’s all I’ve got to say about my best-friend.

2012 Reflection

This year was the best. Having Ms Squires for 2012 was great. It was kind of difficult for me but that is okay.  Leaving Pt England will be very upsetting for me because, well, I will miss my besties Jay’lee (cousin), Hosannah, Tui and Roezala. They have been my best friends ever since I was a little 2yr old. Anyway 2012 has been the best year of my entire school life. Ever since I been a little junior girl I have always dreamed about coming to a day where I leave school having a happy year and now it has come true. I have had up’s and down’s but that is alright. Anyway this was my favourite year of all.

My Net-book Reflection

Another year of using mini laptops was fantastic. I would be grateful if I could use my net-book next year but unfortunately I can't because I moving schools. It would feel very unhappy if I leave my favourite technology thing. And because I have to go back to writing with pencil and paper.

Anyway let's get back to my net-book story. On the positive side of my net-book is that we get to type instead of write, and you can study on the internet and the non-allowed but fun thing is the home games we have on our desktop. The negative thing about my net-book is.. well, nothing really it is best the way it is.

Where I Am From

Samoa:
Where I am from, I see the beautiful blue beach, half covered with sand and shells.
Where I am from, I smell cooked and fresh food like roast pig and taro with chop-suey.
Where I am from, I hear cars in traffic and vehicles beeping at each other.
Where I am from, I taste coco-rice and toast for breakfast and corn-beef and rice for lunch.
Where I am from, I touch the sea filled with clear water and seaweed.

School and Glen Innes:
Where I am from, I see people talking to each other.
Where I am from, I smell food like McDonalds and KFC.
Where I am from, I hear children yelling goodbye to their mothers before they head off to school.
Where I am from, I taste the Carls Jr and Takeaways.
Where I am from, I touch my netbook ready to learn.

The Scary Shed

“I told you that the barn looks cool” Jarna said in excitement.
“Yeah, it’s spooky like you said. How did you find it?” Ashleigh replied as she finished tying her shoe lace. In a distance they couldn’t see the barn properly but by the look of it, it didn’t look like a house that they would live in.
“I have my ways. Anyway lets go and check it out!” as she continued walking.
“Okay” Ashleigh said.
The sky was dull and goosebumps started to appear on Ashleigh’s arms. She rubbed them and walked briskly to catch up to Jarna. “Wait up Jarna!” Ashleigh yelled.
“Hurry up Ashleigh. We’re almost there.”
“Oh man, I have a bad feeling about this” Ashleigh thought to herself.

As Jarna and Ashleigh got closer and closer they could see the house more clearly. The only word to describe it was UGLY!!!Jarna felt an adventure inside this old barn. “Lets go inside!”
“No... What if something happens to us?” Ashleigh said as she tried to stop Jarna
“Nothing is going to happen...... I’m going inside.”
As much as Ashleigh felt like going home she knew that she had to look after her best friend, so she went.

It was pitch black when they went inside the house. They could hear things scattering around everywhere. Jarna was leading the way and Ashleigh was right behind her, trying to avoid stepping on rats. While they were walking something fell. “What was that Jarna?” Ashleigh asked.
“I don’t know” Jarna replied.
“I think the house is falling apart” Ashleigh said while she was trying to find the way out. Ashleigh grabbed Jarna’s hand and tried to find the way out.  More debris came falling down. “Come on Jarna.” Ashleigh said. They tried and tried to find the way out but they couldn’t see anything. They decided to yell out for help. “HELP! SOMEONE HELP US!” They repeatedly said. No one came.

All of a sudden the door started to open. “There’s the entrance Jarna. Lets go!” Ashleigh proclaimed. They ran carefully though. Trying to avoid any debris. Suddenly they heard an old man. “Come this way girls. Quickly” he said. Jarna and Ashleigh followed the mans voice and by no time they made it out of the house safely.

The old man and the girls walked to his truck. “Thank you sir, for saving me and my friend.” Ashleigh said.
“No worry. I have one question for you though,” The old man said.
“What is it?” Jarna asked as she put her seatbelt on.
“Why were you in there anyway?” The old man asked. Jarna and Ashleigh looked at each other. “Well, it is a long story.” Jarna and Ashleigh said together.

The Bush

Looking up to the trees I could see birds tweeting from the top and small creatures crawling on the bottom. Small drops of rain coming down from the trees, luckily for me I’ve got my raincoat on. Covered with water I run under the trees for some shelter.

“Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!” I scream. There were small creatures crawling on my raincoat as I leaned against the trunk of the tree. “Pshhhhhh, you think I’m not scared of you small things,” I say to the crawling things on my coat. In fact I was scared of the creatures that were crawling on my coat so I gently take off  my raincoat and drop on the floor.

“I better get out of here. This place freaks me out. Small things walk on your clothes and, and, I just don’t know what to say,” I say in a scared voice. “What’s the matter, Osana, are you scared,” one end of me say. “Come on lets go don’t listen to that old lier,” the other says. “I’m just going to stay under this tree for a while and then I’ll leave,” I say to myself. “That’s right!” one brain whispers to me.

I start to feel like something has actually touched me. And then I scratch a little. I feel like someone or something is tickling me. I turn around and, “ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH, OH MY GOSH I COULD’VE LISTEN TO MY OTHER BRAIN!!!!!!” I scream in a loud and terrified voice. “I better go now. Tonight I’m going to have a very bad dream, in fact it isn’t going to be a dream it’s going to be a nightmare.” I yell to myself.

I ran all the way home and told my family all about my creepy adventure. They told me that I was just trying to make them freak out. So I went to bed that night and dreamed all about my day today. It was freaky I tell you. I’m never going back to that rainforest never and ever again.

A Hand Pops Out of the Sand

“Hot, hot, hot” I said as I tiptoed along the sand.  My feet were burning like I was on fire. I had my beach shorts and summer t-shirt on. The temperature today was as high as you could ever think of. Sweat beaded down my face. I needed more sunscreen.

As I walk towards the groyne I hear my best-friends Tui, Hossanah and Jasmine yell out to me. I turn around and replied back to them.
“Hi,” they yelled as they walk near me, “Would you like to build a sandcastle with us.” “Yeah sure,” I say.

"Isn't it a good time to go for a swim?" I say to my besties. We start to pack our things and head over to the sea. As we get up we suddenly see something strange and white pop out of the sand. “Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!” my friends and I scream like tiny babies crying. “What is it?” I whisper to them. “It’s a hand,” one of my friends say in a cracking voice.
The fingers then start to move and as we get nearer and nearer the hand crawls closer to us. After a while we see another hand pop out of the sand. We yell and scream as loud as we can but no-one can hear us. One of my friends ran away because she got scared. There were 3 of us left and none of us wanted to go closer to the 2 hands. We were all frightened.
“You go first,” I say to my friend Hossanah. “No, because it might jump up and get my face,” he said in a horrified way. “It wouldn't. I promise. Now, come on, go on, go on,” I tell him promisingly.

Hossanah then starts to walk close to the 2 hands. He turned around and cried.
“I don’t want to go!” he cries to us. He then runs away.
“Okay your turn, Tui,” I said. “No way I’m going home, see yah.” she says.
I then start to shiver a little and then I see both hands disappear back into the sand. “Well that was freaky. I better go home,” I thought to myself.

Today was the scariest time of my life. When I left for home I started to think, “how did those hands pop out of the sand?” I didn't want to go back to the sea ever again. When I got home I told my parents all about it but they thought that I was crazy. So I went straight to bed after a weird and unexpected day.

Going to Russell

Do you know which place in New Zealand was the first ever capital city? Well I do and this is where my family and I spent our holiday, exploring the beauty that this place has in it. It is called Russell. Russell is like an island but more like a place than an island.
Well before we go any further I've got to tell you about the where we stayed at. Well, it was a motel, but not really a motel it was like a cottage, but a bit bigger. In-side of our big and tall cottage their were stairs that curled like a spiral, we called this the spiral stairs. Their 3 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms and 1 living-room. To my eyes it did not look like a cottage it looked like an ordinary flash house.
let me tell you about the outside of the house. Right in the middle of all these houses was a swimming pool. It even had it's own hydryslide and playground and it even had it's own spa pool that warms you up when ever you were cold or felt like relaxing. Where we stayed at was incredible.
Not far from our cottage was the ocean. You could smell the fish and the seaweed that were in the water. My cousins and I were fishing on the warf. I caught 1 fish and my cousin Malaete'a caught the other. I was amazing. After a while we packed and left to go home and swim in the pool.
The weather was wonderful and the sun was shining like a bright star. We knew it was time to swim. Bombing into the pool felt refreshing because we just spent 4 hours of driving from Auckland to Russell and we stood at the warf for about an hour and a half. So we  decided to get a cool swim and relax our bodies. i felt as if I were flying in the sky when I got into this fantastic pool.
Being in Russell was amazing even when we went across to Paihia. Paihia was across from Russell place. But in this place there were more living things and what I mean by livings is that their is more action and more fun (but not more fun than Russell) and even more stores to buy things out of. But this holiday was really really really really really fun.
You should go to Russell some time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Inspirational Day

This morning we got a visit by an inspirational speaker who wrote the poem “Brown Brother.” Joshua Iosefo and his parents came to visit our senior school to recite and talk about his poem. Joshua is a prefect at Mt. Roskill Grammar School. His culture is Samoan and Niuean.

Before he got to speak us year 7 and 8’s did a Mihi (Maori Speech), Karakia (Maori Prayer) and Waiata (Maori Song). Finally we got to hear Joshua reply. Instead of him doing his speech in Samoan or Maori he did it in a surprisingly did it in Japanese.  He did it in this language because he couldn’t speak any of his languages.

Have you heard his “Brown Brother Speech?” 63,000 viewers saw this inspirational spoken word on the web/internet. Was even on the “Campbell Live News.” When he re-recorded his poem many viewers then commented on this very performance.

His inspirations are God, his parents and especially his grandparents. When ever he went and visited his grandparents all he wanted to do is interview them. What I mean by “interview them” is that he always wanted to know more about his grandad and his grandma. He also wanted to know when they emigrated to New Zealand.

After he’d finished his speech then he had to answer our questions that we asked him. The questions we asked him were awesome and the answers he gave us were also awesome. It was an amazing and inspirational day.

Olympic Day

“Let’s go Scotland, let’s go (clap clap clap),” Matthew (our leader) yelled. We were playing a game against Italy. The game we played was called 3-legged soccer. Today was our second “Olympic Day.” Instead of just us seniors, it was the whole school.

A sea of multi-coloured t-shirts were hubbed in excitement. Talking and yelling from one side to another, we were getting ready to start off our olympic rotation. Before we did anything we had to do our procession. For our procession we made chants and we cheered.

After a while we started our rotation of various activities. The activity that my team and I first had was 3-legged soccer. The rules were to tie your legs with a pair. It was actually hard to maneuver. Trying to get away from my opponents was hard as well because we had our legs tied up and we also wanted to get a score for our team. Winning to us was important because if we won we would win the big prize.

After all 6 rotations we came across to our last rotation. I was disappointed because I didn’t get to play. This rotation was actually my favourite rotation of them all. The game we played was Basketball. I was energetic to play but when I heard that wasn’t allowed to play I went and sat down with my heart full of sadness. I was even looking forward to playing against my own brother. He was the leader of the Jamaican team.

In 3rd place there were equals, and those 2 countries were Sweden and Argentina. In 2nd place it was Spain. The winner was Ireland.

Sports Rotation

“Yay!” most people said walking towards the hall. Unfortunately the sky was grey and it was pouring with rain but this didn’t dampen our enthusiasm. Today all senior teachers were going to wander around the junior area.  So we were going to have our very own “Mini Olympics” with the theme  “Go For Gold.” It was going to be very different however because the weather meant the mini olympics were going to be indoors. I was in Takitimu 4 and our captain was Vanilla.

We had a lot of activities, Singstar, Jump Jam, Cyber Coach, Movie Watching,  Cookie/Shell Decorating, Obstacle  Course and many more. Our first rotation was the obstacle course. Dribbling the ball around the cone was difficult to maneuver. Walking on the balance beam was also challenging as well. 2nd rotation was the cyber coach. All you needed to do is repeat the same moves as the teacher on the screen.

And last but not least, our 3rd rotation. It wasn’t like an activity session but like a movie watching session. We watched our last production that happened a few years ago. It was called the Toy Shop. It was about a storekeeper who doesn’t know that her store is magical. The storekeepers name was Angela. Anyway whenever she locked the door after her shift all the toys that were in the shop came alive. Some of the characters that starred in the show left our school.

At the end of our rotations we all headed back to the hall to watch PENN. It was a fun circumrotation, even though it was our first time. It was amazing. I hope you enjoyed!

The Netball Tournament

On a wonderful and beautiful sunny Tuesday morning, Pt England netball girls went downto the courts. We were going to compete against different schools. Some of our girls had to play and fill in for other schools. Yr8 Team1 and Yr7 Team1 were the only teams that competed because they were in higher groups than others.

For netball we had to be commited and win all our games. I filled in for the Yr7 Team1. They expected me to play well like how I played during the trainings. For the first game we played against Bailey Road Intermeidiate. Mary L was my position first. On the second half I was WD (Wing Defence). We beat them by 10 points. We won most of our games.

When it came to the finals our team were one of the teams that were first annouced. As we were walking to our court we were feeling the confidence and the huge presure we were going to put on this team that we were going to play against. The team that we were going to challenge for this last and I think final was Baradene. they were very easy at first, but when it came to the last half every one started to lose their pace.

When I got on I was shivering with fear and I felt very scared because I thought that we were going to lose this tournament. I tried my best to defend my partner but she kept on running away and catching the ball. She started to lose her pace so then when ever she got the ball I would always, well not ALWAYS defend her but just sometimes she got the chance to hold the ball.

After all that running and passing and catching balls, this tournament was over. We lost by one point. We came runners up and our coaches were not impressed. They thought that we were going to take this team out.

I've learnt many things in this netball tournament. I've learnt to always stick with my partner and don't be too rough on them. I've also learnt to pay attention to my team and coaches and most importantly my team captains.

SMOKING!

Smoking is bad. The only safe way of smoking is not to start in the first place. If you do start, here are some of the effects it causes. Your health is at risk, it is not good for your appearance and many more. If you don’t believe me, well... Just hear me out.

One reason why I think smoking is bad, is because of the effects that it causes for your health. This happens because cigarettes contain 4000 chemicals. Today, I am only going to name 3 of them. Nicotine, Tar and Carbon Monoxide. You may of heard of them and if you haven’t then the easiest way to describe them is dangerous. Not only do you have a higher chance of dying but your limbs start to fall off. Yeap! You heard me. Your body parts can fall off.

Second reason is your appearance. When you smoke your teeth and nails become yellow and you start to get wrinkles. Another thing you get from smoking is a TERRIBLE breath.

Lots of people start smoking when they are teenagers. Why start so young? Well I think they start because they think it is cool and because their friends are doing. Another reason why they start is probably because they are influenced by their family and friends. This is why you have to be determined and stand up for yourself.

What I told you is just the start about smoking. There are a lot more reasons on why you shouldn’t smoke. Just think about it, do you want your health to be fine when you are an old age, or have a good appearance? I would. That’s why smoking is not my future. It’s your choice, your future!

Thank you to Vivienne for finishing this post!

Mahe Drysdale

Many New Zealand supporters waited for this much. To anticipate and watch this stunning race. Hoping to witness Mahe Drysdale to become successful in the men’s single scull. A single skull is a rower who rows by them self.
During the previous Olympics, Mahe Drysdale was denied a gold medal through illness. So for the last four years he has been training to become even better. His goal was to make sure he won a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.
It was the last 100 meter during the final of the men’s single scull, when it became a nail biting race. As Mahe Drysdale gave it his  all to hold off his challengers, Ondrej Synek of Czech and Alan Campbell from Great Britain.
After Drysdale's awesome competition he crawled out of his canoe and just collapsed onto the pontoon completely shattered. Mahe was feeling really elated at the same time because he had just won himself an Olympic gold medal.
It was a huge relief when 5 time world champion Mahe Drysdale crossed the line and made New Zealand history.
I have just been lucky enough to witness a great NZ history when Mahe Drysdale completed his race with a gold medal,  it will be a moment that will never be forgotten.

Valerie Adams

Not being able to defend her gold medal, Valerie Adams came 2nd and won the Silver. Unfortunately Nadzeya Ostapchuk, from Belarus, defeated Valerie’s personal best (21.24.) Her smile was faced up-side down as she was so disappointed in herself. She beat her best score since the Beijing Olympics.

You can find more info and pictures on this site.

The Opening Ceremony

Did you watch the "Olympic Opening Ceremony?" Well I did and it was very very fun to look at, at the same time it was very very hilarious. It was very funny because The Queen (Elizabeth the 2nd) jumped down from the helicopter. My brother, Joe, and I thought that it was really The Queen that jumped but it was a stump dummy that jumped from the helicopter and parachuted down to the stadium. The other thing was Mr.Bean. Funny Mr.Bean. He was playing the electric piano for the Orchestras Band. When he was playing the piano he was dreaming. Dreaming of racing in the triathlon and also of becoming an Olympic Star. Mr.Bean was coming first but then he got tired and started to come last. As you know sometimes Mr.Bean likes to cheat. So he saw a  car and the car started to drive faster than the triathlon athletes. For a while the driver kicked Mr.Bean out and still he came first. He woke up from his dream and the  Orchestra Band was finished.  He was still playing and then the Orchestra leader told him to stop. For a while he stopped and the crowd went wild and started laughing.

The Olympic Rings

Pierre De Coubertin was the founder of the modern Olympic games also the founder of the Olympic flag.  On the Olympic flag there were five rings but six colours. They represent the five continents.

-The Blue Represents Europe
-The Green Represents Australia (Oceania)
-The Yellow Represents Asia
-The Red Represents America
-The Black Represents Africa

The Olympic Flag mean different ways of goodwill, peace and truth. At the opening ceremony the torch lit from Olympia, Greece and transported to the hosting country ready for the ceremony to start. The hosting country rose the Olympic flag as the torch was transported.

The flag was great to see!
Thanks to my brother, Joe, for helping me finish this post.

My Response on "Brown Brother"

Joshua Iosefo is a year 13 prefect at Mt Roskill Grammar School. Joshua is Samoan, Niuean and a New Zealander. His poem ”Brown Brother” is all over the web/internet. It got filmed by his best friend Rashard who posted this poem on youtube and that is how John Campbell found this young man Joshua Iosefo. Mr Campbell made Joshua redo his poem to screen on TV.

The theme or message for this poem is to not be afraid to change and don’t believe in stereotypes. Stereotypes are a judgement about a group of people. It forces you to do things that don’t help you learn and do things that do help you.It also tells us to don’t limit yourselves and to use the 3D’s.Determination,Dedication and Desire.

Joshua Iosefo inspired a lot of people including me to never believe in stereotypes. My favourite part of this poem was when Joshua said “So do not feel alone for your God, your family and your home will forever be inside the marrow of your bones so do not threat, do not regret.”
I don't see Joshua just as an ordinary human being but as an inspirational person to look up to in the future.
Thank you to Vivienne for helping me finish it of!

Precious McKenzie the Weightlifter

Holding the weights on his chest, the weightlifter imagined what it would be feel like doing his final move to win the gold.  The crowd went silent for a minute or two waiting for his final move. With a sudden move he raised the bar of weights above his head. The crowd went wild and cheered him on.
Thank you to Ms Squires and Awhina for helping me on this post.

Comparison of Pablo Picaso/Henri Matisse

Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse were both famous painters of the same Era.Picasso was born the 25th of October,1881 in Malaga,Spain where as Matisse was born on December the 31st in 1869 in Northern France.Later in their early days they both met in Paris. They didn’t really know each other very well but they ended up becoming longlife friends.

Matisse was an expressionist and a fauvist painter. This meant that  he used unrealistic colours. Pablo Picasso was also  an expressionist painter but was most known for his cubist painting.Their similarities for these two paintings is that they both have ladies in them.

Both Picasso and Matisse have similarities in colour and shading, but they also have some differences in their themes.Picasso uses bright colours and at the same time he uses odd dark colours.Matisse uses unnatural colours like for example colours of the rainbow.

Pablo Picasso’s “Weeping Woman” has a clearly delineated painting. It also has a strong and bold out-lines.Henri Matisse’s painting, “Woman with a Hat”,has shapes that are defined by varying colours. It’s also a unrealistic perspective.

Although there are many differences between Woman with a Hat and Weeping Woman, there were some similarities. They use the same sense of colours. And they both painted a portrait of woman. But different theme for each painting. You can find Weeping Woman on this Site, but you can find Woman With a Hat on This Link

Hineititama-Robyn Kahu Kiwa

On Friday's us years 7 and 8 take part in Taonga Time. And in this Taonga Time we've been assigned to draw a painting painted by a woman named Robyn Kahu Kiwa.In this piece of drawing I've drawn a painting called Hineititama.Heneititama is dawn, the first true Maori human. She was daughter of Tane-Mahuta and mother Hineahuone.Who turned earthly night into earthly day.She became Hinenui-te-po(The Goddess of Death). After discovering that Tane-Mahuta was not only her husband, but also her father. She is shown here becoming fragmented as she changes from an earth-dweller into the Goddess of Death. You can find more information about this painting, just click on this Link.
Anyway I hope you enjoy.

A New Sport

As we were arriving to the courts I could feel the cold breeze go pass by me.Teeth chattering, arms shivering and legs shaking with goosebumps.Trying so hard to wrap my school jacket around me but still I could feel my body shaking.

Our tutors names are Sam(Sandwich),Mike(Milky) and Anita(Butter-Chicken.)They’ve been our teachers for the past 5 weeks. They taught us skills like the Drop Hunt,Hand Pass,Marks,Ruck and the Bounce Pass. The motto for kiwi kick is Laces Away From Faces.

Continuous Tag is the game we played. This is a skillful game because you had to look out for the person that tagged you from behind. And if you got tagged then you had to bob-down.When the person that tagged you bob-down then you had to get up up start all over again.“So now you get the game.........you should try it sometime it’s really fun.”

The Starry Night

You can find this picture on this link
One of  Vincent Van Gogh’s famous paintings is “The Starry Night”.His impressionistic style incorporates mixed emotions. The Starry Night features a lot of bold outlines, rough textured brushstrokes and value or shading. Also added in this painting is isometric perspective. He does this by using the frames up close, large, and the frames far away, small. Vincent Van Gogh uses oil on canvas as the medium for his paintings. The effect of this painting is very strong, bold and really clear and delineated.

The Abundance

Daniella Hulme is a NZ artist, one of her famous paintings is named the “Abundance”.In most of her paintings she has been influenced by her husbands culture,Samoa. This theme there are variety of blended colours. This represents what mood she’s in,and in this painting she is in the happy and calm mood.
In the Abundance,Daniella has used the technique of oil painting on canvas kind of style.Daniella Hulme conveys a lot of atmosphere into all of her paintings.

Camp Motivation

Firing up the stove we gathered corn into a pot. We were cooking for the years ⅞ camp. While they were out doing activities, our crew were cooking their dinner. It was corncobs, barbecued sausage and chop suey.It was hard work for the first day.For three whole days my crew and I buttered bread and stack them back into the bag. That was really easy to do.

It was almost time for afternoon tea and the camp bunch were still carrying on with their activities. Some of them were at the Amazing Race activity, some were Skating in the breeze and some were playing Ping Pong in the hall.I enjoyed cooking their afternoon tea which were scones, fruits, water and pizza bread. It was enough for one day, before I went home I hugged my brother good-bye and then I went home.

A Story About The Wonderful(Dr.Carson)

Benjamin Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan. His mother Sonya was surprisingly dropped out of school when she was in grade three. At an embarrassing and of course a low age of thirteen Sonya was apparently married. Unfortunately After a few years Sonya and her husband divorced. So she had to raise her 2 boys, Ben and Curtis on her own.She would always have 2-3 jobs just to provide her children.

While the boys were in there education age, their mother saw that they were actually falling behind in school. In fifth grade Ben was obviously listed that he was at the bottom of his class.Ben went to school the next day and all his classmates called him “ the biggest dummy”and at that moment he had just developed a mean-less, uncontrollable temper. When Mrs. Carson saw Benjamin and Curtis’s failing grades, she was untiring to turn her young generations’ lives around. She limited the boys' television watching and rejected to let them outside to play until they had finished their assignment every single day. She made them to read two library books a week. And they had to give her written reports on their reading even though, with her own poor education, she could barely read what they had written.

Within a few weeks, Carson astonished his classmates by identifying rock samples his teacher had brought to class. He recognized them from one of the books he had read. "It was at that moment that I realized I wasn't stupid," he recalled later. Carson continued to amaze his classmates with his new-found knowledge and within a year he was at the top of his class.

The hunger for knowledge had taken hold of him, and he began to read voraciously on all subjects. He was determined to become a physician so he had to learn to control his violent temper.

After graduating with honors from his high school, he attended Yale University, where he earned a degree in Psychology.

From Yale, he went to the Medical School of the University of Michigan, where his interest shifted from psychiatry to neurosurgery. His excellent hand-eye coordination made him a superior surgeon. After medical school he became a neurosurgeon at the world-famous Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. At age 32, he became the hospital's Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery.
In 1987, Carson made medical history with an operation to separate a pair of Siamese twins. The Binder twins were born joined at the back of the head. Operations to separate twins joined in this way had always failed, resulting in the death of one or both of the infants. Carson agreed to do the operation. A 70-member surgical team, led by Dr. Carson, worked for 22 hours. At the end, the twins were successfully separated and can now survive independently.

School Picnic!!

On a dull morning Pt.England School went down to the reserve. To have our very own picnic with our family, friends and also class.I thought to my-self that this picnic was going to be a soggy and windy picnic because I looked up into the sky and all I saw was a dim, cloudy and grey sky. Never mind the clouds and the sky above but the weather.Cold, wanting to put a jacket or jumper on but I searched all over in my bag but nothing was there. So I said to my-self,”I’ll just have to stay like this.”I felt as if there was going to be no sun today.
But I was wrong. After a few minutes of taking pictures and videos of people. My best friend Tui said to me that the sun was going to come out. I looked up into the fluffy white clouds and as I gazed at it I saw it's big yellow nose poking out from the cloudy
clouds.
I went down to the beach and took some photo’s of the big rock which was not an original rock but a groyne.
I also took photo’s of the children collecting the clay and the sand. They also decorated them.
Nealy all day I took photo’s of the beach and the playing area’s.
Still up hill there were students playing softball, cricket, volley and so much more.Even our little ones had so much fun playing on the park.
The softball crew hit some really good hits on the ball that nearly one of the ball skins came off.It looked as if all bat people were pros at it (to my eyes).

It came to swimming time when everybody got to swim even our new entrances got to swim for the first time at the reserve.Splashing the salty water to each looked like fun.

It’s like me and Tui (best friend). I splashed a lot of sea water on her and she cried .
After a while there was a big crowd in between the beach and the playing station.I wandered? “HHMMM, why are there so many people crowed around this one big thing.”I peaked over some body's shoulder and saw people singing. To my eyes I thought that this singing karaoke thing was so cool.
For a while we had to pack up and get ready to go back to school so we could be dismiss for class.
It was really nice to see all the yrs1/2/3 were having a great time swimming, playing and even eating?
It looked as if every body were exhausted after the picnic. It bet that they collapsed onto the grass.
My favourite part of the picnic was seeing a lot of people smiling at the end of the picnic!

The Duffy Theatre!

We had just gone to a Duffy Theatre. During the show there were some funny jokes and some didn't seem so funny. Unfortunately it had to finish so fast. The actors names were James(Duffy), Ana(The Greatest Book in the World) and Liu(Scruffy-Duffy's little brother). The duffy theatre was about "The Best Book Ever".
This book could take you on amazing adventures, like take you into Space, take you onto cool rides and much more.In this book you could sign what you liked about the book and what you didn't like about the book. It showed many emotion(kind of) and a lot of fantastic moments.
Do you like to read? Well I do. Reading makes me understand, spell, know more knowledge about the book.

Cold at the Beach!!

I looked up to the sky and all I saw was the sun covered by grey ugly clouds. The windy wind had just come running pass me. My teeth were chattering.
Did you know how cold it was at the beach?
It was freezing like ice!
No blanket, no rain-coat or jumper, no anything. All I had was my beach shorts and t-shirt.It was breath taking. It felt as if the world was covered in cold ice and snow.
I was so disapointed in the weather. The temperature was really low.
